Purchasing baby clothes can be tricky business, especially for first time mums, there are so many baby dresses and outfits to pick from! I know I had a challenging time and made some blunders with my purchases along the way. What kind of baby clothes will I need?

Purchasing baby clothes can be a boggling experience, as your bump grows you will probably begin to panic - 'I don't have any baby clothes!' You will most likely do what I did and start wandering around all the stores that sell baby clothing, baby clothes, baby gifts and so on. The choice is unlimited, this is where the danger lies in purchasing a lot of clothes for baby.

Too many baby clothes means your baby will only wear them once or two (or not at all), babies grow very fast and the next size up in that special outfit is needed before you know it! Wishing you with the cutest outfits ever, but no VALUE FOR MONEY.

The perfect way to purchase baby clothes is to be certain to have sufficient outfits for you through the week in a couple of different sizes, but not too many that you have overflowing drawers of baby outfits which haven't been unwrapped before your baby becomes too big to wear them or replicate clothing which you didn't actually require.

But to be fair, replicate baby clothing is not that large of any problem indeed, especially in the early days when baby clothes can only be worn once and usually for a few hours and all clothes has to be constantly cleaned and cleaned! From the early days be sure you have numerous baby dresses, bodysuits, comfortable playgro suits, and sleeping suits, basic tees, comfy cotton pants, warm cardigans and coats or sunhats, based on the season.

Before you purchase new baby clothing check the period of the year that your baby will probably be born, it might be around sale time, which is the best time to buy bulk lots of newborn baby clothes which you are going to need.

Once each the confusion has settled you will have an exciting time purchasing your first newborn baby clothes, it's much more enjoyable than buying clothes for yourself (honestly) - and then in time you will be getting more fun as soon as your baby grows out of the very first bunch of clothing, you'll find yourself a more seasoned shopper at the baby clothing department.

Sizes

Sizes of baby clothes vary from manufacturer to manufacturer so that we have not listed a definitive sizing manual here. Newborn sizes normally start from 0000 but this is in fact quite a small dimensions and unless you've got a smaller than average baby, you might only receive a month or 2 from this dimension. The best advice is to pre-buy in size 000 and then buy extra supplies from the 0000 size if you need to after the arrival. O wide necks, or easy fastenings to acquire clothing over baby's neck easily
O fastenings to let you remove and change a nappy without completely undressing baby
o snaps / press-studs are simple, safer and quicker than buttons
o no rough seams or embarrassing cloth - natural, cotton, etc, is best
o machine washable
o assess that buttons are sewn on nicely (baby can choke on little buttons)
o no loose threads that little fingers or feet might get captured in
o prevent strings and ribbons which babies can wrap around their necks
